Folks from Ghent and surrounding area codes: don’t miss out on the last Rooted night at Decadance this Friday July 1st for Jensen’s birthday with special guest Melon aka Je Davu. Happy birthday buddy!
This Saturday July 2nd a whole Belgian delegation is striking down at the Barefoot Bar & Beachclub in Scheveningen, Holland! The ‘Housebiet’ crew chartered a bus or 4 to bring you safely at the destination. Look at their Facebook event page to see if there are still free spots. If not, just come down like that… why not? I’ll be spinning from 2pm till 4pm. Catch a few of you there!
This is slighty off the path what I usually post up here but I thought it would be interesting for some people living or visiting NYC before July 16th to visit my friend from my hometown Leuven Dirk Janssens his first overseas gallery exposition of his Made In Wonderland collection. Definitely worth a visit at Art gallery CATM Chelsea in Chelsea, New York (500 W22nd ST, NYC). Big up Dirk!!
The Porcelain Tour lands a second time in Oostende on Saturday July 16th (yes, we couldn’t get enough of the sea breeze just yet!) but this time it’s a biggie! Both the Casino Kursaal and Krush Club are hosting Studio Brussel‘s Maxximum party. I’ll be spinning in the ‘classics’ room and no need to explain what that will mean! Studio Brussel’s headhoncho Jan Van Biesen and King DJ are joining me for the classic attack! You can win free tickets at …. uhm, free-tickets.be if you are a fast ‘clicker’!

I am in a rainy but good mood today so I decided to release the live recording from the Porcelain Tour leg at the ‘Silo closing weekend’ party last April. Since we are on a little break for this tour in the next weeks (next date: Ostend on July 16th) I though it was a great idea to give this to all you people who didn’t make it that night. US leg of the tour coming up too: July 27th till Aug. 8th. Hope to see you there!!
So sad to hear the news about Kenny Hawkes leaving us earthlings this Friday night. Ironic that he was the first guest DJ at Food in Silo, Leuven (July 1996) and also the last guest at the closing night of Sunnyside Up also at Silo (Jan. 2011). The start of a big house night and the end of a big house night in this city. That was also the last time I saw Kenny (see pic above). He was a big influence to many of us and in a way he meant a lot for house music in Leuven and also all over Europe. The Space Wednesdays at Bar Rhumba in London were run by both Kenny and Luke Solomon and they’ve managed to create a very tight friendship and network between lots of US and EU deejays at that time which was crucial for the genre’s major success. I realize today more than ever that what happened at that time was a beautiful thing and I sincerly can say that those times were really gold and unforgettable. This big man had an even bigger heart, believe me. He was always kind and his humor was legendary beyond words. I’m sure that everyone who’ve had spend some time with him has a funny story or two to tell. Thinking back of all the gigs we had together, the laughs… all over Belgium and in London. Kenny, you are a legend! RIP old friend.
